The Blending Effort of Chinese into Indonesian Society (local society) trough Literature letters (1925-1935)

The blending happened in the several of life area. One of them was the blending of the culture. And literature letter was one of the instruments. Through the master pieces, people would be able to see how culture problems and the view of Chinese ethnical at that time. Even, from the literature letter, the Chinese ethnical could make their selves closer with Indonesian. Besides that, this effort was also intended to look for the identity of Chinese ethnical as a part of Indonesian. It was purposed as a legimation assumed minority in order to be a whole assimilation.

The majority of Chinese literature letter was written based on the real event between Javanese Society and the stories from Tiongkok. It could be seen from the article 'kedjadian betoel-betoel' found in every book. The author moved the real event to be a fiction with a simple way of telling story in order to make readers getting easier to catch the meaning. That was why, language used was Melayu-Rendah language with typical dialect of Chinese. It was because Chinese ethnical did not get the good education in colonial era.

Method used in this research was method research of history. It included of four steps (heuristic, criticize source, interpretation, and historiography). The major source was obtained from the documents and literature letters in colonial era that were short story and novel found in magazine or Sin Po and Liberty. In order to express the content and meaning found in the literature letters, this research also used the method of descriptive content analysis with the coding process (the process of cultivating sources with noting symbol or message systematically. Based on the content analysis within literature letters, it could be known that the efforts and strategies of integration done Chinese ethnical. The strategy of integration viewed in social field (Marriage), education (The appear of Tiong Hoa Hwe Koan), economy (through trade with their role as lease officer or broker), and culture (it could be seen from ceremonies conducted by Chinese ethnical. The literature letters of Chinese ethnical was not as difficult as the Western literature letters. It did not use the high Melayu language but containing meaningful messages. These literature letters were the sociology data of Chinese ethnical in Hindia-Belanda era.
